We’re spoilt for choice these days.
Infinite Spotify playlists. Endless games as a service. Countless films and tv shows on Netflix.
Growing up in the late 80s, early 90s, we had to make do. Which, if you were a kid, meant a handful of video games every year. Maybe you got a game for Christmas, another for your birthday, and scraped together some pocket money in-between.
Magazines helped fill the long gaps in-between. They allowed us to access a world of games and systems far beyond our modest suburban lives. Which meant the monthly release of your favourite magazines was a big deal.
This is an attempt to look back at that era with the benefit of hindsight. To put the games, the reviews, and the people behind it all in proper context.
The plan is to release a series of mini magazines about these old magazines. Which feels like a suitably meta nod to the classics. But for now, I hope you enjoy the articles and retrospectives.
Thanks for reading.
